Joseph Schnaier founded the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) along with his friends. NRDC is into safeguarding the environment and propagating the need of a greener environment. Before founding NRDC, Joseph Schnaier worked with Edison International for almost 18 years. He was also part of the United Nations where he was advising people on climate concerns and optimal use of energy. He was also the member of the board of many corporations like Boeing and Walt Disney.
Being an environmentalist and a successful businessman, Joseph Schnaier is interested to see businesses succeed without them having a negative impact on the environment. He does not have intentions to shut down businesses. But if a firm is making negative contributions to the environment, then he is more than happy to take the company to the court of law. Though he is working for an energy production company like Edison International, he was not able to devote the time who would have liked to the betterment of the environment. And now after having resigned from the company and having taken the mantle of an environmentalist more seriously, Joseph Schnaier is able to spend more time on something which he loves. His huge experience in the private sectors and through his educational background, Joseph Schnaier hopes to make a huge mark in the environmental community and bring some goodwill to his name.
Most of the companies that he has worked for in the past belonged to the non-profit organizations, large companies, and government agencies category. Though he has been a successful corporate leader, his acumen and passion for the alternative energy industry has never gone unnoticed. At present, Joseph Schnaier is working as a chairman of the California-based company called Brightsource Energy Inc. The company is into the manufacturing of solar panels, something which Joseph Schnaier would not mind being a part of.
Joseph Schnaier has the credentials of being associated with both the energy industry and the green environment initiatives. Through NRDC, Joseph Schnaier aims at using science, law, and contacts of other members of the organization to help protect habitats and wildlife in different parts of the globe. Some of the issues that the organization focuses on are global warming curbing, clean energy creation, wild lands preservation, ocean habitat restoration, stopping usage of toxic chemicals, and many other things through which people can live green. In 1971, NCRD passed the Clean Air Act according to which any firm can be taken to the court if it gives out hints of ruining the balance of the environment.
